Description
Calendar top only; cardboard cut-outs of male and female deer with a snow-covered cottage in the center. Compliments of Kiso Yasunaga Produce Transfer Co., 691 North Sixth Street, San Jose, Cal. (According to page 55 of Japantown (Fukuda/Pearce, 2014), "One of the most important [produce distributors] was the Yasunaga Trucking Company on Taylor Street. Koso Yasunaga's trucks would pick up the farmers' produce and take it to the market in San Francisco. Dr. Ishikawa recalled, 'It was a very busy place. He had lots of trucks and a lots of truck drivers. Some of the drivers were Japanese and some were Italians. He had a very successful business and built a beautiful house over there that had to be taken away when Fuji Towers went up.'" Notes at back of book indicate that Yasunaga passed away in the 1930s. His wife, Nami Yasunaga, continued the business for a while before moving back to Japan in 1937. The Doudell family took over the trucking yard and operated the business until the mid-1940s. The Facchino Freight Lines took over the yard and operated until the land was purchased for Fuji Towers.
