Description
Interview transcript between W. Wade Head, Project Director at Poston (Colorado River) War Relocation Project, and H.H. Townsend, Supply and Transportation Officer. Townsend appeared to be unstable and frightened at his job and stated "I was afraid that I and the other employees were going to be slaughtered by the Japs" during a strike at Poston. Project Director W.W. Head stated his severe disappointment and chastised Townsend for his actions, which included leaving his post and inciting fear and panic among the WRA employees and incarcerees at the camp. Head went on to explain the danger Townsend put others in and what massive damage would have occurred if the army was brought in, including loss of lives, including those American soldiers abroad who were detained by Japanese soldiers. Head recommended that Townsend hand in his resignation for his actions during the strike.
The War Relocation Authority (WRA), together with the Wartime Civil Control Administration (WCCA), the Civil Affairs Division (CAD) and the Office of the Commanding General (OFG) of the Western Defense Command (WDC) operated together to segregate and house some 110,000 men women and children from 1942 to 1945.
