Alexander (Al) Campanis was born in 1916 on the Isle of Cos, off the coast of Greece. The Director of Scouting for the Los Angeles Dodgers has distinguished himself as a player, manager, scout, and author. In addition, he is the Dodgers' Latin-American baseball ambassador, his contacts with Winter Baseball league enables the Dodgers to send many of their players to teams in the Caribbean, Central and South America during the off-season. Campanis authored one of the game's most extensive and widely used books of instruction, "The Dodgers Way to Play Baseball," which has been printed in English, Spanish and Japanese.
