The out schools were staffed by indigenous teachers, such as Willie Kanini who trained at Kikuyu. He arrived at Chogoria in 1923 and taught at Tungu out school. In 1932 he was ordained as an Elder and became the evangelist in charge of the South Meru district from 1947. ❧ Image from the collection of Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) showing the early years of the Chogoria mission, established near Mt Kenya in 1922 and run by Dr Irvine, ministering to the Chuka and Mwimbi peoples.
