Description
A nine year old boy helps a Salvadoran Army soldier clean a Madsen machine gun near Usulután. He is a child soldier and an orphan, adopted by the Salvadoran Army and drafted into service. The weapon they are cleaning is of Danish design, but of unknown origin and manufacture. Behind them in the background there are three soldiers also cleaning weapons. Richard Cross took this image in 1982 while covering the presidential election and War of Liberation in El Salvador. Un niño de nueve años ayuda a un soldado salvadoreño a limpiar una ametralladora Madsen cerca de Usulután. Él es un huérfano y niño soldado, adoptado por el miembros del ejército salvadoreño y puesto al servicio del mismo. La ametralladora es de la era de la segunda guerra mundial de diseño danés pero de origen y fabricación desconocida. Detrás de ellos al fondo de la imagen se observa a tres soldados también limpiando armas.
