Description
Photograph of a view of a dirt street in Independence, ca.1887-1888. The street is at center and is a broad, unpaved road lined with an assortment of wooden buildings. The buildings are all one- or two- story structures with covered porches. A large brick building is on the left side of the street. It has a wrap-around balcony, and a large crowd of people is gathered on the porch. Many more people can be seen sitting in chairs on the porches of other buildings. Six newly planted trees can be seen in the foreground at left. In the distance at right, a line of trees is visible.
