A centennial book conceived as an effort to celebrate the lives of those remarkable women who have shaped Palo Alto community in the past century. Since history often has a masculine bias, this book acknowledged those women whose influence permeates Palo Alto today. Neither living women, nor women described solely in relation to great men, are noted. Included are women who secured suffrage for all California women, educated their sisters about political participation, founded schools, healed the sick, constructed buildings, created art, represented citizens at every level of government, aided the poor and disenfranchised, improved and protected the environment, and founded civic organizations. Their contribution to Palo Alto is immeasurable.
