Profile of actor and producer Wallace Reid (1891-1923), resting his foot on the front fender of an automobile with a California license plate. A small black and white dog, possibly a Boston Terrier, stands on the hood of the car next to a small American flag. A very small seal on the front hood reads, "McFarlan Six". This might be the official seal of the McFarlan Motor Corporation, which manufactured automobiles from 1909 to 1928 in Connersville, Indiana. The McFarlan was a luxury automobile labeled as the most expensive car made in the U.S., and was known as the "American Rolls Royce"; usually owned by celebrities such as Fatty Arbuckle, Jack Dempsey, and Paul Whiteman, among others. The automobiles were best known for their huge twin-valve, 6-cylinder models. In 1921, the McFarlan car sold for approximately $9,000.
