Description
Manuscript letter addressed to “My Darling Nannie”, from Edward Davis Townshend, dated Cleveland Ohio, April 28, 1865. General Townsend, the officer in charge of escorting Lincoln’s remains on the journey to Springfield recounts his emotions and experiences to his wife. First line: “We have arrived thus far on our mournful journey.”
With black mourning border on first page.
