Description
View of two men standing inside of a harness shop in Orland, Glenn County circa 1918 Auto tires made their first appearance about 1918 to help make up for declining harness buisness in the Schmidt Store. At left is George Flaherty, who was the harness maker for 15 years after the death of C.F. Schmidt, founder of the business. At right is Everett Schmidt, who took over the family business after his father's death. Selling tires was only the first of many changes he had to make to keep up with the times as autos replaced horses and buggies and electric appliances came into use
