Photograph of a distant view of the ruins of the first Indian cliff dwellings in Canyon de Chelly part way up the cliff wall, ca.1900. Lines indicating layers of sediment can be seen throughout the smooth rock wall. The dark and lightly-colored minerals create a marble image on the surface.
