Description
Photograph of three men standing on two wagons near a tank of water in Death Valley, ca.1900. The enormity of the tank and wagons dwarf the men who are lounging on it. The front wheels are smaller than the rear wheels on on all three hauling vehicles. The terrain is dry and rocky (foreground). Mountains are visible in the background. Picture file card reads: "One of the 20 mule team sets. There were always 2 wagons and a water tank trailer because 20 mules take quite a drink. The freight wagon weigh 7,500 pounds each and each has a carrying capacity of 22,400 pounds, or a little over 11 tons."
