Description
This is a photograph of a Fr. Paulhus speaking with a blind beggar in the church alley at Sunwui [now Xinhui]. Fr. Paulhus is standing and wearing a white cassock. The man is dressed in ragged clothing and has a basket beside him where he sits.
Rev. Paulhus was born in St. Hughes, P.Q., Canada. He was ordained for Fall River, MA diocese in 1917, but was permitted by his bishop to join Maryknoll in 1920. In 1922 he was assigned to Kongmoon, where he worked in the seminary. He was expelled from China in 1951, and remained in the U.S. for the remainder of his life, which he spent chiefly teaching in Maryknoll's seminary.
