The Hurd Cottage sits atop Sharp Peak. The hillside is carved into perfectly flat terraces, which appear to be for agricultural purposes.
Emily Susan Hartwell was an American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions missionary stationed in Foochow, Fukien from 1884.
