By the age of 16, diver Greg Louganis had won his first Olympic medal. Eight years later, at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, he won gold in both the platform and springboard events, becoming the first man in 56 years to do so. He repeated the feat at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. In 1994, Louganis publicly acknowledged his homosexuality, adding his name to the short list of prominent gay athletes. Greg Louganis, 16-year-old Olympic diving hopeful from El Cajon, is the picture of aerobatic grace as he practices his skills at Los Coyotes Country Club, site of this weekend's Los Angeles International Invitational High Platform & Springboard Diving Championships in Buena Park. Louganis, who'll be favored in the meet's platform event, is regarded as this country's leading hope for a gold medal in the Olympics at Montreal. The Olympic Trials are slated two weekends hence at Knoxville, Tenn. Dated June 11, 1976.
