Description
Photograph of the flood damage to the Santa Fe tracks on the old Downey Avenue Bridge (later North Broadway) during the Los Angeles flood of 1885-1886. Several people are standing in front of a lumber pile and shed, near the washed-out Santa Fe tracks on the banks of the Los Angeles River. In the foreground, two large ropes cross the tracks and continue down to the river, where one rests on a pile of debris. Across the water, a damaged bridge can be seen, and a streetcar is at the extreme right of the picture.
