Photographs of an Apache Indian grandmother carrying her grandchild on her back and three other grandchildren (a boy and two girls) sitting nearby, ca.1900. The woman's short graying hair is windblown. She is grasping the right hand of the child on her back with her right hand. That child wears a plaid shirt. The woman wears a long dotted dress. The woman is crouched on the ground. The three other children sit around her. All of them are barefoot. In one image, one of the little girls has her hands on top of her head. In the other image, one of that little girl's hands lays on her grandmother's knee.
