Description
The Will Rogers estate in Santa Monica Canyon on November 24, 1938, became the front line in the battle against the raging forest fire in the Santa Monica mountains. The photo shows the ranch houses, with the flames just coming over the mountain ridges. Hundreds of fire fighters centered their efforts to save the famous landmark, with Mrs. Will Rogers, widow of the late humorist, assisting. Some of the stables caught fire but were saved by the firemen.
