Udsendt af DMS/Danmission til Tanzania,1987-2001. Her var hun lærer på Ntoma Husholdningsskole, Bukoba, hvor kvinder kan skabe sig et erhverv, en selvbevidsthed og mulighed for at forsørge deres familie. Det er afgørende at hjælpe de unge og kvinderne i Tanzania. Kvinderne bærer arbejdsbyrden og har ansvaret for familien med mad, børneopdragelse, omsorg for de syge mv. Else Højvang. School teacher, 1979. Course at the Selly Oak Colleges, Birmingham. Area secretary of FDF/FPF (Junior organisations),1979-84. Teacher at Haslev Folk High School, 1985-86. Sent by DMS/Danmission to Tanzania,1987-2001. Here she was teaching at Ntoma Home Craft School, Bukoba, a place for women to get vocational training, develop self-reliance and be able to support their families. In Tanzania, focus on support of young people and women is essential. Women are carrying the work load and responsibility for their families – with food, child rearing, care for the sick etc. At the same time they may have very little education and only few rights. (In 2004 Else Højvang was re-sent to ELCT, Tanzania – see later portrait).
