Description
Annotation translation: "It is already a sign of inner progress that the people allow themselves to be photographed. Twelve years ago this was not the case. In those days photographers would come from Bandjermasin, but did very little business. People would not sit for them because they were afraid that their souls would be fixed to the photographic plate and that they would fall ill or die. Nowadays they laugh at this fear. And the ever more European style of clothing shows the increasing influence of culture."
