Description
Sutter's Fort is the subject of this circa 1955 postcard, captured from the south side of L street, which runs in the foreground. Clearly visible are two block houses or bastions. The one to the rear of the fort, and on the left side of the postcard, measures some 30 by 35-feet in size. To the right is the southeast bastion, built to be 20 by 20 feet in size. When constructed, both block houses had flat roofs, covered with earth, then a layer of shingles. Cannons were removed from both towers in 1846.
