The collision in South Central Los Angeles claimed the lives of the van's driver and the Cadillac's driver and passenger. Two other people whose cars were hit in the collision at Broadway and El Segundo Boulevard were slightly hurt, authorities said." Photograph caption dated August 30, 1988 reads, "Little remains of a van whose 18-year-old driver sped through a red light at the intersection of Broadway and El Segundo boulevards yesterday, causing a four-car crash that killed three people and injured two others, authorities said. Teresa Avila, behind the wheel of the van, died in the collision, along with Anna, 38, and Maria Turrey, 32, both of L.A."
