Photograph was edited for publication purposes Los Angeles Airways, founded in 1944, invented the term 'heliport' and was the first company to receive authority to carry mail by helicopter as well as passengers. Photograph caption dated March 17, 1956 reads, "Although he is not back-seat driver, helicopter attendant is nevertheless a very important man in air mail copter service. Anthony Credico places box and mail sacks into waiting wheeled vehicle upon landing at Los Angeles International Airport. Helicopters provide answer to traffic-snarled streets.
