Description
This photograph shows the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium, located at 1515 J Street. Long one of Sacramento's most iconic structures, it was opened on February 22, 1927, to honor those Sacramentans who died in the First World War. The building's architectural concept, shepherded through by construction engineer H.V. Grant, is Mediterranean Revival. One of the more sentimental aspects of the structure are a set of chimes, set to play the Star Spangled Banner at six o'clock every evening. They were donated by the War Mothers of Sacramento.
