Photograph caption dated November 23, 1948 reads, "D. M. Kibbie, of 10540 Ranier St., Roscoe, calls his 15-foot plant a Hawaiian dahlia. However, the botany department at U.C.L.A said it had no listing of such a plant. One professor added that Mexican tree dahlias of which there are two varieties, often reach 15 to 20 feet in height."
