Robert Orton
Portrait of Robert Orton, the 10th sheriff of Santa Cruz County. He was first elected sheriff in 1871, and held the office for eight years. Before being elected, he was a miller in the Watsonville/Corralitos area. After his tenure as sheriff, he bought a grist mill in San Luis Obispo and moved his family there. His obituary appears in the Santa Cruz Morning Sentinel on May 23, 1901, p. 3 col. 3.
