An architect's rendering of the addition of a rear annex to San Jose. Hospital. The original hospital building on the right facing Santa Clara Street opened in 1923 with ninety four beds. Annexes added to the rear of the original building in the 1950s and 1960s eventually brought the number of beds to more than 600. In 1996, the hospital was acquired by Hospital Corporation of America, which decided to close the facility in 2004. The hospital is now vacant.
