Description
The Roeding family movies. Footage includes: Family, Loomis Growing Grounds, and the Essanay Days Parade in Niles. A parade in Niles (Fremont) was an annual community event that the nursery participated in. According to the Daily Review June 1, 1962, Essanay Days started with a carnival in downtown Niles and ended with a parade of more than 75 bands, floats, and marching units. Essanay Days refers to the 1912 to 1913 era when the Essanay studios established itself in Niles. Charlie Chaplin filmed several films here in 1915. The parade was a week long in 1958, ending on June 8. Almost every city in Alameda County and Contra Costa County participated, according to the Oakland Tribune, June 9, 1958.
