Description
Richard Reeves discusses his book, “President Reagan: The Triumph of Imagination.” Reeves begins the interview by explaining that the book is a literary portrait of President Ronald Reagan. To research Reagan and his presidency, Reeves utilized newly declassified documents and interviews, just as he did with his previous books on President Kennedy and President Nixon. Reeves discusses how Reagan’s ideas were so old that they seemed new and the way in which he preached individualism. He goes on to detail how Reagan “dumbed-down America” by blending fact and fiction and thus transforming political debate into emotionally charged entertainment. Also in this interview, Reeves discusses such topics as Reagan’s attempted assassination, the Iran-Contra scandal, Reagan’s meetings with Gorbachev and much more.
