Description
The Crippled Children's Society was founded in 1926 by the Los Angeles Rotary Club, primarily to serve the needs of children affected with polio. The society established several rehabilitation centers for children throughout Los Angeles to help children with all kinds of disabilities. In 2000, the name was changed to Ability First.
Photograph caption dated March 20, 1958 reads "Swimming instructor Ted Gross loosens braces on legs of 8-year-old Danny Duran of Reseda in preparation for dip in heated pool at Rancho Del Valle, Easter Seal center in Woodland Hills. Gross serves as volunteer swimming instructor for handicapped children and has altered course of his career after realizing satisfaction of helping children." The facility is at 6350 Winnetka Avenue in Woodland Hills.
