Description
Photograph of an exterior view of Hotel Baltimore, Los Angeles, ca.1911. A three-story building is pictured at center and commands most of the block to the right, while being much narrower to the left. A decorative central tower is installed on the building's corner, which suggests a Queen Anne style of architecture. Below, where horse-drawn carriages and pedestrians can be seen, the sign "Stockwell and Bradford. Grocers" is pictured on the side of the first floor. Other legible signs from left to right include: "Los Angeles Athletic Club [...] 450 [...] Frontage". Originally, the photograph was captioned as "Exterior view of the Los Angeles Athletic Club building on the corner of Seventh Street and Olive Street, ca.1911". The similarly named New Baltimore Hotel (as it was known at the time) opened in 1910 at East 5th and Los Angeles Streets. According to some sources, the New Baltimore Hotel opened in 1910, soon after the hotel sold its former location at Seventh and Olive streets to the Los Angeles Athletic Club.
