Kay Bogendorfer Orner was born in 1909. She was president of the Los Angeles Civil Service Commission from 1953-1960, and the first female postmaster in Van Nuys, serving from 1960-1972. She died in 1991.
Photograph caption dated September 14, 1962 reads "Relaxing a little before the 'holiday mail rush' is Kay Bogendorfer, postmistress of Van Nuys. Kay and her husband, Paul, sailed for the Mediterranean last week aboard American Export Lines' luxury liner S. S. Constitution." Mrs. Bogendorfer is pictured with an unidentifed man, possibly her husband.
