Description
An open-air market is held every Friday at 6th Street and Mesa Street, shine or almost rain. This was one of the ways to get people to come to the old town area in an effort for revitalization. Along with "First Thursdays" (on the first Thursday of every month, the artists in the area open their studios to the public), it has drawn neighbors to spend time in this older community. When this vendor started bringing his BBQ, only a quarter of the grill was being used. Now the whole grill is stacked two deep and is usually sold out before the day is over. In this photo, customers are seen waiting as the two clerks prepare baskets with the barbecue goodies. In the background, a marquee announcing a tattoo shop and a banner reading: "Pop-pop kettle korn [sic]' are visible. Photograph dated 2001.
