Description
Microfilm of the diary of J.R. Bodham, kept while he was preaching at various schools in Iowa and California between 1879 and 1888. The diary opens when Bodham was living in Iowa and preaching at Shenandoah, Manti, Summit, Mill Creek, and Dutch Hollow. It then traces his mission work in California, including at San Bernardino, San Diego, Azusa, Green Meadows, and Los Angeles. Also included in the diary is a chronology of Joseph Smith and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, various notes on John Taylor, a brief family listing for Charlotte Bishop Woods and William Bishop, and various Biblical quotes. The reel also contains two items related to the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and its Southern California District. The first is a copy of meeting notes from the Organization of the Eighth Quorum of Teachers, Southern California District at Los Angeles (1908), and the second is a volume of historical records for the Southern California District for 1881-1921, including statements, meeting records, lists of officers, and general history, particularly for the branches at Los Angeles, Laguna Beach, Covina, El Monte, Valley Center, Santa Ana, and Long Beach. The volume also contains some history of the Arizona branch. All inquiries about this item should be directed to the H. Russell Smith Foundation Curator of Western Historical Manuscripts at the Huntington Library, San Marino, CA. Microfilm.
