Regimental orderly book consisting mainly of records of courts martial, with some regimental, garrison, and detachment orders. Included are copies of George Washington's Farewell order to the Armies of the United States, 1783, Nov. 2 and his letter to Henry Knox (1783, Dec. 2). The 4th Massachusetts regiment was created on January 1, 1777 and served until November 3, 1783, under command of Colonel William Shepard (Jan. 1, 1777 - Jan. 1, 1783) and Colonel Henry Jackson (Jan. 1, 1783 - Nov. 3, 1783).
