Description
Pictured is Annalouise Friese of Burlingame, California, aged 20, in 1941. Freise was selected as the theme girl at the 1941 California State Fair during the first annual Girl of the Olden West contest. This contest was conducted in cooperation between the California State Fair and the Western States Promotion Council. According to the Sacramento Bee, Miss Freise was "five feet six inches tall, a brunette, and was gowned in a purple and white costume with hoop skirt, parasol and camelia-all in the high style of the pioneers". Freise was awarded $200 for the first place prize.
