Description
Front of postcard depicts an image of a steam train heading into the Tavern of Mt. Tamalpais. The Lookout can be seen in the background. The following text is printed on the front: "No. 431. The Tavern on Mt. Tamalpais, Marin County, California." The back of the postcard contains a handwritten message. The following text is printed on the back of the postcard: "Chas. Wiedner, San Francisco, Calif. Made in Germany." The Tavern of Tamalpais was a combination hotel and restaurant which opened in 1896 and was sometimes referred to as Summit Tavern or Tamalpais Tavern. The Tavern burned to the ground in a 1923 fire, but was rebuilt and reopened in 1924. The Tavern continued to operate until 1950, when it was razed by the Marin Municipal Water District.
