Photograph caption dated November 21, 1947 reads, "Chained and heavily guarded, four convicts charged with robbery and jailbreak from Chino are escorted from lockup to appear before judge for preliminary hearing. In group are, left to right, Deputy Sheriff R. R. Roese, convicts J. Lee Davis and Raymond P. Stout; rear, unidentified guard; convicts Kenneth Carpenter and Bill Hanson. At right is Deputy Sheriff E. C. Montevarde."
