Description
This unique aerial view of Christian Brothers School at 21st and Y streets was taken in 1930. Previously at 12th and K streets and known as Christian Brothers College, the school accepted a donation for the pictured plot of land at 21st and Y in 1916. The school was built in 1924 for $225,000, with three primary wings. They are, left to right, the classrooms building, the auditorium with classrooms, and the dormitory with classrooms. Just off the upper, southeast corner, and in front of the school is the gas station of William Leachman at 2501 Freeport Blvd. In the upper, right-hand corner of the photograph is the Saint Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. The school’s previous location, which it had held since its founding in 1876, was purchased by Weinstock, Lubin and Company for $200,000.
