Description
“Kimunyi’s” “Showing Government camp & out dispensary in distance. Guria River below.” Landscape view of a river running through hilly country, some thatched huts sit on a ridge to the left. The dispensary is one of the medical out-stations of the Tumutumu mission, founded in 1909 and known as the Trans Tana Mission after the lands beyond the Tana River were considered safe enough to settle. Kimunyi was a chief for a substantial area around Tumutumu. ❧ This image is from an album chronicling the time that Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) spent at Tumutumu (1919-1921) and some of the early years at Chogoria.
