Description
John Menkes discusses his book, “After the Tempest.” He begins by explaining the book’s plot, which begins in post World War II Venice. One of his central characters is a young man who was drafted into the army and worked in a concentration camp registering new arrivals. He explains that another central character, Judith, loses her parents in the Holocaust and she escapes from Vienna to Ireland. Menkes shares how some of the book is based off his own family’s experiences as Jews in wartime Vienna and how he and his family also escaped to Ireland and then later California. He goes on to discuss his career as a neurologist. Later in the interview Menkes reads aloud from his work.
