Description
Shown is a program for contralto singer Marian Anderson when she played the Memorial Auditorium March 14, 1951. Accompanied by Kranz Rupp on the piano, the program provides her set list ranging from classical numbers to folk and spiritual songs. Marian Anderson was one of the most anticipated acts to come through Sacramento, having already performed tours across Europe and for the White House twice. She was also the recipient of the Spingarn Medal of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the first African American to receive the Bok Award from the city of Philadelphia.
