A bust-length studio portrait of Union Major Edmund DeBuck (or De Buck) turned partially to the left. DeBuck has a full but neatly trimmed beard and mustache, and is almost completely bald on top of his head, with hair around the sides. "J. Cremer & Co., artists, No. 18 South Eighth Street, Philadelphia." is stamped in black on the verso. There is a green three cent stamp with a portrait of George Washington attached to the verso. Title from foot of image, below inscription reading "Yours". An ms. note on the verso reads "E[?] D Buck".
