Description
Photographic portrait of Cave Johnson Couts of Guajome Ranch, taken upon his graduation from West Point, 1843. Couts is shown from his waist to his head and is looking straight ahead. He is wearing a military uniform complete with epaulets and a thick tie, as well as a kepi with a star insignia. He has wavy dark hair that extends past his ears and a long, youthful face. He is holding a braided whip in his hand. This is a copy of a daguerreotype. Photoprint reads: "from Guajome Ranch, San Diego, adobe file with note: 'These pictures of the Guajome Ranch presented to Collection by Mrs. Arcodia Bandini Brennen'".
