Photograph caption dated December 18, 1988 reads, "Los Angeles Police Chief Daryl Gates eulogizes three officers who died when two squad cars collided on the way to a backup call last week. Nearly 1,800 friends, relatives, and law enforcement officials gathered to say goodbye to Officers Manuel Gutierrez, Jr., David Hofmeyer and Derrick Connor during services at the Scottish Rite Temple."
