Description
Portrait of loaded pack train in front of the old Rich Hotel. "The driver is Louie Mori. All of the families food and the necessary materials for mining were brought by burro pack train from Spanish Ranch, which was 12 miles over the mountain. All the furniture had to be transported in the same manner, as there was no railroad or highway in the canyon. From October to June, pack trains could not get in through the snow, so in the fall they had to buy and transport enough to last all winter. When the orders were delivered to the Eyraud home on Indian Hill, the driver always had dinner there with the family. The pack train was owned by Thompson & Kellogg of Spanish Ranch."
