View of a large house and adjoining wall with garden gate, along a dirt road. Col. E. J. C. Kewen and his wife lived for 20 years in the building known as "El Molino Viejo" (Old Mill) in present-day San Marino. This is not that building, but may be another building on the El Molino ranch property; the exact location is unclear. See notes below. Title transcribed from negative. Date based on handwriting on back of print in Hazard-Dyson collection, which reads: "Home of E.J.C. Kewen, 1st Attorney General of California, at San Gabriel." Handwriting in another hand on the same print says: "House on El Molino Ranch, NW corner Old Mill Road and Lopez St (Monterey Road), c. 1905." Edward J. C. Kewen was elected the first Attorney General of California, in 1849, Superintendent of Los Angeles City schools in 1858, and was the Los Angeles County District Attorney from 1859 to 1861.
