Description
Three women, a man, and a young boy are depicted in a parlor. The man stands at the left. He wears a black top hat and holds a cane in his right hand. He wears a blue cravat, a white vest and a brown frock coat over gray pinstriped trousers and black boots. The woman to the right wears a white hat with blue flowers and white and purple ribbons tied under her chin. Her dress is blue and she wears a black velvet mantelet over it. Her mantelet has black on black rosettes along the hem and the wide sleeves with fur trimming, and white quilted lining. She holds a closed blue parasol in her right hand. The woman next to her sits in a wide red upholstered seat. She wears her hair dressed back in soft waves over her ears. Her mint green dress has a jewel neck with a wide white lace collar, long wide elbow length sleeves, and full white blouse sleeves underneath, gathered in at the wrist. The green dress has a pattern of scattered small pink flowers with green leaves, and edging of green, pink, white and yellow bias-cut plaid. It buttons down the front, and has a narrow plaid belt with an oval buckle and some sort of beads looped next to the buckle, two rows of plaid zigzags on the sleeves, and one row of plaid zigzags on the knee length overskirt. She wears a gold bracelet on her left arm, and hold a sheet of paper in her lap. The woman next to her wears a green bonnet with matching plumes and yellow flowers. Her dress is purple with wide elbow length sleeves over a white full sleeved blouse gathered in at the wrists. Rows of purple fringe trim the bodice, sleeves, and skirt. She wears a gold bracelet on her left arm. All the skirts are very wide; it is the start of the crinoline fashion. A boy stands at the very right. He wears a brown bowler hat, with a black ribbon. He wears a white vest, black jacket, and horizontal pinstriped white pants. He has a maroon bow tie and black boots, and holds a stick in his hands.
