Andrei Codrescu discusses his novel, “Messiah.” He begins by introducing his main characters and explains how his book is about Christian prophecies in New Orleans. He talks about his main character, a young girl who believes the words of a televangelist and tries to help her grandmother who is dying. He discusses another parallel storyline about a young political refugee who joins a convent in Nazareth. Codrescu talks about how he used real places and restaurants in New Orleans to make his story more lifelike. He talks about the popularity of the Internet and the use of icons to talk to people. He says that the catalyst for the book was a story he read about a young Italian game show hostess who disappeared in New Orleans.
