Photograph caption dated November 18, 1961 reads, "By way of announcing that its general membership drive will begin Monday, four members of the Burbank Police Boys' Band played - aided by batonette Ruth Rivett, 14 - for Mayor Robert F. Brandon. When (from left) Mike Cooke, 13; Dave Arnold, 19: Bob Swaisgood, 17, and Alan Tucker 15, finished playing, they told the mayor that the band must finance its activities by selling enough $2 memberships to raise $2,500. The band marches in Burbank and makes appearances in other Southern California cities."
